Last night around 30 people (some from surrounding riding’s, who couldn’t vote but were there to show support) came out to select the next Green Party candidate in Ottawa-Vanier.

The meeting was held at the Sandy Hill Community Centre and was followed up by an impromptu pub night at the Royal Oak on Laurier (who better be voting for us since we go there so often).

Caroline Rioux will be representing Ottawa-Vanier Greens and has brought some renewed excitement to the riding. While she prepares her team more and more former volunteers are back in the fold and we are readying for what will certainly be our best campaign to date.

Thanks to all of you who came out to the event and helped setup/clean-up. A special thanks to Katie and Nicole for handling the registration and other tasks that were critical in last night’s success.

I was giddy yesterday at the possibilities but now I’m pumped. Its time to start the campaign. I’ll try not to make this a habit on in my posts but what we need now is to ensure that Caroline has the resources to implement the size of campaign Ottawa-Vanier can surely support. Please donate to Ottawa-Vanier today.

Dear Ottawa-Vanier Greens,

It was a great pleasure to organize the 2009 AGM. I would like to thank the following volunteers, without whom this AGM would have been impossible

Carole Lalonde

Valérie Gervais

Dave Benes

Pamela Levac

Katie Gibbs

Dave Bagler

Chris Bradshaw

Akbar Manoussi

I would also like to thank our special speaker David Churnenshenko. We wish him well on his next documentary, Powerful.

This AGM we made a particular effort of reaching out to members. Volunteers made a particular effort of phoning good portion of the membership. For members who have indicated French as their first lanaguage, I made sure the first notice was sent in that language. The turn out, for an AGM, was relatively good with 20 people.

The results for election to the executive are as follow:

For federal association president, incumbent Akbar Manoussi won his second term.

For provincial association president, Dave Bagler won his first term

For CFO, Sherri Savari and Feliks Welfeld won the position of CFO. Feliks will be the CFO for the CA and Sherri will be the CFO for the EDA.

Additionally, Darcy Hartwick volunteered for a chair position on the steering committee. On behalf of the Ottawa-Vanier Greens, I would like to thank them for taking on these crucial positions that insures the Green Party has a local presence outside of elections. As well, the prepatory work associations do for elections is invaluable.

This is the first time to my knowledge that the Ottawa-Vanier Greens have two CFOs. It is a sign of our growth and of the times to come.

As for amendments, they all passed without significant changes. The minutes will be posted as soon as they are available.

As for me (Julien Lamarche), I plan to stay involved as technical assistant (mailing lists & website) as well as organize events from time to time. My next project is organizing a call center to help out with the referendum in British-Columbia on electoral reform. The referendum will be held on May 12th, but we will begin calling as soon as possible. More details on julienlamarche.ca.

That is all for now, I hope you all had the chance to enjoy Family Day.

Yours truly,

Julien Lamarche
