Following are the amendments, two weeks before the AGM, as indicated in the notice members of the Ottawa-Vanier Greens have receive by mail or e-mail. Amendments are currently presented in plain text; the posting will be updated at a latter time with proper formatting.
Clarify executive vs steering comitee in section 4
—————————————————————————————-
Be it resolved that the sentence “This combined executive is also known as the Steering Committee.” of Section 4.2 be removed. Section 4.2 would now read:
“4.2. The business of the AGM shall include the election of the Executive of the EDA, and the Executive of the Constituency Association. The Executive of the Ottawa-Vanier Greens as a whole is comprised of the members of both of these smaller executives.”
Be it resolved that section 4.3 be replaced to read:
“4.3. The outgoing Executive shall deliver a report on the year’s decisions and activities.”
Adjust nomination rules to fit GPC and GPO requirements
—————————————————————————————-
Whereas the GPC membership is larger than the GPO
Whereas the GPC members were allowed to vote at the GPO nomination by becoming GPO members the day of the nomination, which was approved by the GPO office
Whereas the GPO members where not allowed to vote at the GPC nomination by becoming GPC members the day of the nomination, which was dictated by GPC rules
Be it resolved that the last sentence of section 6.1A be changed to “A member who has been lapsed, current or new member of the GPC 10 days prior to the nomination can become a member of the GPO at the nomination meeting in order to vote. (with permission from the GPO central office GPO’s permission)” so that section 6.1A reads:
6.1A The Ottawa-Vanier Greens shall hold a nomination meeting to select a candidate to represent the GPO in the constituency. Members of the GPO who have been members for at least 10 days prior to the date of the nomination meeting may vote at the nomination meeting. A member of the GPO whose membership has lapsed (expired within one year of the nomination meeting date) may renew at the nomination meeting in order to vote. A member who has been lapsed, current or new member of the GPC 10 days prior to the nomiation can become a member of the GPO at the nomination meeting in order to vote. (with permission from the GPO central office GPO’s permission).
Be it also resolved that the last sentence of section 6.1B be removed so that section 6.1B reads:
“6.1B The Ottawa-Vanier Greens shall hold a nomination meeting to select a candidate to represent the GPC in the electoral district. Members of the GPC who have been members for at least 10 days prior to the date of the nomination meeting may vote at the nomination meeting. A member of the GPC whose membership has lapsed (expired within one year of the nomination meeting date) may renew at the nomination meeting in order to vote. A current member of the GPO can become a member of the GPC at the nomination meeting in order to vote. (can’t)”
Adjust quorum to GPC rules
——————————————-
Whereas the GPC rules set quorum for AGMs at “the lesser of (5) members or 5%.”
Be it resolved that section 7.1 be changed to read:
This constitution may be amended by a 66% vote of approval *by the* Ottawa-Vanier Greens members present at a general meeting, except that no change may be considered by the meeting unless notice of the change proposed has been given to the members in writting by electronic means or regular mail at least 2 weeks prior to the date of the general meeting.
Be it further resolved that Section 7,3 be changed to read
Quorum for a general meeting of the Ottawa-Vanier Greens shall be *the lessser of 5%* of *current* members *or 5 current members*.

Perhaps one could use a spell checker prior to posting on this website? Adjust - not ajust.

In terms of the Ottawa-Vanier Greens being made up of the executives of both the EDA and CA how are fund raising and membership drives balanced in terms of effort going towards the GPO / GPC?

Thank you Roland, corrected.
Hope to see you there.

I am wondering if we could get clarification on the GPO permission to have GPC members sign up at the meeting. Has this permission been granted? Can it be withdrawn at any time? Do we have to seek the permission in advance each time?
Why has the reciprocal allowance being removed? Has the GPC actually stated that they won’t allow this.
Thanks
James

James: the amendments reflect what happened at the previous nominations for both associations.
I do recall contacting GPO office to ask them if we could allow such a rule and the said yes. Did Leonard contact the GPC to discuss the rules he had received by e-mail? I don’t recall.

Dave: fund raising
That’s usually up to the executive to decide. Its a point of contention, but its usually best to leave it to a decision because the association will want to put money depending on what election is coming up.
