The Ottawa Vanier Nomination meeting is fast approaching and will happen on Thursday, August 20th.

The meeting will begin at 7pm sharp and we ask that everyone plan to arrive between 6:30pm and 7:00pm. We hope to have things wrapped up by 8:30 as we need to have the place cleaned up by 9pm.

The nomination meeting will be held at the Sandy Hill Community Centre at 250 Somerset Street East.

Contesting the nomination are Akbar Manoussi and Caroline Rioux. Their profiles are included below (click on “Read more”).

Akbar Manoussi

Akbar Manoussi is a Business and Management professor who has taught for the past 25 years at University of Ottawa and Carleton University.

He received his honors degree in Economic and Law from Tehran University, Iran in 1970. His post graduate degrees were in Applied Economics in 1973 and Management Sciences/Production Operation in 1978, from University of Waterloo, Ontario.

As an established business professor with extensive experience in applied management and business he has been able to provide business models and solutions to selected clients with regional, national and global markets.

Manoussi is the President of Canadian Higher Education, an educational consultant to Universities and Colleges in Asia and Middle East, providing Professional Training Programs in Business and Management.

As a multicultural and community activist he has been an advisory member of Cultural Diversity Committee with the RCMP for the National Capital Region, as well as advisory member of Community Outreach Program with RCMP for the last three years.

Manoussi was elected as the Provincial Candidate for Ottawa–Orleans in August 2007, and Federal Candidate for Green Party of Canada in Ottawa–Vanier in March 2008.

Manoussi has been elected twice as the President of the Electoral District Association for the Green Party of Canada in Ottawa–Vanier, in 2008 and 2009.

“My goal is a fair and just society in balance with nature, which values the health and vitality of our families, local communities and economies. We will achieve this through sound fiscal management and progressive social policies. Our solutions will reflect the interdependence of the economy and the environment.

Social responsibility must be a cornerstone of our approach in Canadian foreign policy, international affairs, foreign aids and development, peace and security, human rights, economic sustainability and environment responsibility.”

I will be proud to represent the people of Ottawa-Vanier as the Green Party Candidate in the next Federal election.”

Caroline Rioux

Caroline Rioux is a proud Franco-Ontarian who was born and raised in Carson Grove, in the heart of Ottawa Vanier. She obtained a Masters in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, where she promoted sustainable transportation as part of the founding of carpooltool.com, to be used by universities, municipalities and companies to facilitate ride-sharing.

Moving back to Ottawa shortly after that, she now works as a professional Software Designer for a large firm.

As a Green Party activist, she has held many roles in local associations, including CEO of the Kitchener-Waterloo association and secretary of the Ottawa Centre association. Caroline has also volunteered on many campaigns, helping with communications and canvassing.

With the support of Ottawa Vanier Greens, Caroline is looking forward to the privilege of representing the Green Party of Canada in the next election.
